In the wake of George Floyd's death (May 25, 2020), citizens across the U.S. gathered en masse to protest police violence against black men and women. Shippensburg University Archives needs your help documenting our local community's response to these events. Did you attend a protest in Shippensburg, Carlisle, Harrisburg, Lancaster, York, or another central PA city? Please consider submitting photos, videos, speeches, etc. from these events using this form. Your contribution will be preserved by SU Archives for future research and teaching purposes.
If you have physical items you would like to donate to the Archives (signs etc.) please contact University Archivist Christy Fic (email@example.com).
Shippensburg University Archives and Special Collections needs your help documenting how COVID-19 has impacted the lives of our community members!
We've created a site where SU students, faculty, staff, administrators, alums, family and friends can upload photos, stories, and videos. Visit https://shippensburgcovid19.omeka.net/ to participate.
We are looking for materials that document your day-to-day experiences during the COVID-19 pandemic. This will help us preserve and share what life was like in our community during this unique time. If we don't capture it now; it'll be a lot harder in the future! You can submit Word documents, PDFs, digital photos, video files, or audio files. Example submissions are listed on the 'What to Contribute' page of our COVID-19 site.
Archives & Special Collections is where we keep records and artifacts that relate to the University and its history, as well as the University's collection of books about Pennsylvania history and other publications of unique value. We also have a collection of rare books on a variety of topics. The Shippensburg University Archives collects, organizes, makes accessible, and preserves non-current records documenting Shippensburg University’s origins and development, including the activities and achievements of its offices, faculty, students, alumni, and benefactors. The Archives preserves materials of enduring historical or informational value to serve as Shippensburg University’s institutional memory in support of administration, teaching, research, and service. The Archives promotes a greater awareness, knowledge, understanding, and appreciation of the history, programs, and goals of Shippensburg University. The Archives is vital for supporting understandings of American life as it is lived at Shippensburg University through the management and retention of its personal, academic, and social memory.
