Accessing Resources

Library resources will prompt you to login with either:

  1. Your Ship email account
    or
  2. ShipID# and Last Name

Your ID card with ShipID# will either be mailed to you or given to you by your instructor.

Renew Materials

Interlibrary loans are managed via ILLiad. On the ILLiad main menu, click on "View/Renew Checked Out Items."

  • Renewal depends on lending library approval
  • Make your renewal request as soon as possible
  • The lending library will need time to consider the request before the material becomes overdue

Shippensburg University materials cannot be renewed.

Fees

Sometimes Interlibrary Loan is not free. The Interlibrary Loan request forms asks how much you are willing to spend, just in case the lending library charges for photocopying or lending.

Ship Library Interlibrary Loan makes every attempt to borrow the material from a library that does not charge a lending fee. When charges are incurred, they usually range between $15.00 and $25.00 per request. Any invoices for charges will either accompany the Interlibrary Loan material or will be mailed later.

Request Books

Students are encouraged to come to the library for SU materials (must have valid ShipID in order to borrow materials).
Please note that students are responsible for return shipping costs.

Distance learners, students who do not have regular classes on the Shippensburg campus, have the following options for submitting requests:

  • Using ILL for books
    • If you would like books delivered to your home address you may request them using ILLiad.
    • Normally we will mail interlibrary loan books to you within two weeks after receiving your request.
    • Books will be mailed to the address you provided when you registered as a first-time user.
    • N.B. Textbooks may not be requested via Interlibrary Loan

Finding books and other materials

  1. Search WorldCat for the title
  2. Click on the "Request via Interlibrary Loan" link
  3. Log in to ILLiad with your SU email account and password
You must use your full Ship email address

If you do not know what your Ship email address is, go to info.ship.edu and click on Students
    • Click on Get Email Password in the upper right corner
    • Follow the directions there
  4. If this is your first time using ILLiad, fill in your profile
    • Under status choose "Distance Ed Grad."
    • For Preferred ILL delivery method, select Mail to Address
    • Once you have completed your profile, close the ILLiad window
    • Return to step 2 (above)
  5. Verify the item information imported into ILLiad
  6. Submit your request.

Request Articles

It is often easier to place an ILL request directly from a search result in a database. Look for the "Check Availability" link near the article you're looking for. If the Check Availability pages list no online access:

  • Click the "ILLiad" link near the bottom of the Journal Linker page
  • Log in to ILLiad
  • Check the article data imported into ILLiad
  • Submit your request

If you have a citation, please check to see if the library has access to your article before requesting it via ILL.

  1. Check the Journals List
    1. Search for the Journal title
    2. Verify the year of your citation is within the date ranges indicated
      1. If an "Article" link is present, this should go directly to the article
      2. If a "Journal" link is present, this will allow online browsing of available issues
      3. If a "Database" link is present, use this to search the database which should have access to the article
    3. If the library does not have immediate online access to the article, please
  2. Request through ILLiad - the article will be scanned and sent to you electronically

Returning Materials

All books and other materials must be returned to Ezra Lehman Memorial Library by the due date indicated on the material.

  • Books and other materials may be returned via the U.S. Mail or by United Parcel Service (at the student's expense) or in person to the library
  • Material returned through the mail must be packaged so as to avoid damage

If materials were damaged due to lack of protective packaging, you will be charged replacement costs for books. When returning materials by mail, you should retain the receipt for verification of return and to avoid being charged for replacement costs for lost materials.

Using Other Libraries

Shippensburg University students may use the collections of a number of libraries in central Pennsylvania.
