This guide is intended as a resource for Shippensburg University students and members of the general public with an interest in LGBTQIA+ issues. Many of the databases included this guide are free and open to the public, although most resources require a Shippensburg ID for access and are labeled as such.
In this guide, the term "Queer Studies" is used to refer to the study of not only lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer/questioning, intersex, and asexual lives, but also the social forces responsible for creating norms and expectations relating to sexuality and gender as well as the countervailing forces which challenge those norms and expectations.
It should be noted that many of the identities addressed in this subject guide can overlap with each other and that the classification of certain resources into categories such as "gay, bisexual, or asexual" is done to facilitate ease of access, and not to confine the identities of the individuals described in those resources into a single category.
This guide was created by James Sterner, with assistance from Dr. Kirk Moll, Professor Abdul Aden, and the Shippensburg University PAGE Center.
