November 11 is Veterans Day in the United States, Remembrance Day in the United Kingdom (and other Commonwealth countries), and in some instances still referred to as Armistice Day. Though it had its origins marking the end of hostilities for WW I, this public observance has since expanded to recognize service, and service members, in all conflicts. The official change to Veterans Day was signed into U.S. law in 1954.
Long before there was official government recognition, Shippensburg has made special efforts to recognize, honor, and include community members who have served in the armed forces. Included here are several examples from the Shippensburg University Archives spanning WWI through the conflict in Vietnam.
We thank our many students and staff who are veterans of the armed forces for their service!
