Happy Juneteenth from the Lehman Library. On June 19, we celebrate the emancipation of the last enslaved African Americans in Galveston, Texas, more than two years after President Abraham Lincoln issued the official Emancipation Proclamation. From the struggles of slavery to the ongoing fight for civil rights and equality, Juneteenth serves as both a reminder of our progress and the work that still lies ahead in the fight for equity in America. To celebrate this day and to continue to work for a future of inclusion and justice, the Lehman Library is here to provide you with the resources to educate yourself on Juneteenth and black history in America.
Library Resources:
Juneteenth reminds us of the importance of continuing the work of those who came before us. It is a call to action to stand up against injustice, advocate for equality, and strive for a world where freedom and opportunity are truly accessible to all. On this day, consider the ways that you can help make this world a reality.
