Library Circulation

Students, Staff, & Administrators Borrowing

Loan limits

  • Undergraduate students: 50 items at a time
  • Graduate students: 100 items at a time
  • Staff/Administration: 50 items at a time

Book Loan Lengths

  • Ship Library Books: due back at the end of the current semester
  • Renewals: sorry, no renewals.

A/V Media Loan Lengths & Limits

  • Ship Library Audio and Video Media: due back on the 14th day after the borrowing date (limit 5 borrowed at a time)
  • Laptops (students only): due back 30 minutes before building closes
  • Renewals: sorry, no renewals for AV materials or laptops.

A valid SU ID is required. Shippensburg University students, faculty, staff, administration, and community patrons may borrow books, audio and video media, and other physical items from the library for specified periods of time.


Self-Renewal Procedures for Ship Library Materials


  • Click My Library Card to access your account in the library catalog.
  • Login with your Ship email credentials
  • click the Loans tab to view the items you have checked out
  • Click Renew next to the item(s) you want to renew
  • Check the item status on right, double-check for the new Due: date and look for Renewed in the right column

Overdue Charges

General Collection Materials

  • No fees are assessed, but students will not be permitted to borrow additional materials until overdue items are returned
  • 3 hour reserve materials - $1 per hour to a maximum fee of $100
  • 1,3,7 day reserve materials - $5 per day to a maximum fee of $100

Laptop Computers

  • $10 per hour to a maximum fee of $2,200


Recalling Items Already Checked Out

You may 'Recall' items with a status of 'Checked Out' or 'Renewed' by following these steps in the Library Catalog:

  1. With the item's record displayed, click 'Request' on the tool bar at the top of the screen
  2. Type your ShipID# (the number beginning with 65... on your ShipID); enter your Last Name; Click Login
  3. Choose Recall from the drop down box; Click on OK
  4. At the OPAC Request Recall screen:
    • Verify the title of the book you wish to recall. 
    • Type your ShipID# in the 'Barcode' box. 
    • Verify how long you wish the recall to be in effect in the 'Not Needed After' box. 
    • Click on 'Submit Request'
  5. A message appears at the top of the screen indicating that your recall was successful. 

You will be notified via e-mail when the book is returned to the library. The book will be held for you at the Circulation Desk

Requesting Media Equipment

Lehman Library Circulation Department has the following media equipment available for students, faculty and staff:

  • LCD Data Projectors
  • Digital Camcorders
  • Digital Cameras
  • Tripods
  • Laptops (staff and faculty use only)
  • Digital Voice Recorders
  • Cassette Tape Recorder

Items can be charged out a maximum of 7 days. There is no renewal for these items.
