Developing a research question (or several research questions) and finding key words is an important first step in conducting research into a topic. Once you have determined a topic, an issue, and a stance that you will present, you will need to determine what questions you need to answer in order to effectively back up your stance. Next, you will need to determine what key words are going to be most effective in searching for information on your topic.
See below for an example:
Topic: Education Issue: Sex Education in Public Schools
Advocacy: Abstinence Only programs are a disservice to American youth today. Inclusive sex education is crucial for teaching young people how to make responsible choices about their bodies and their sexuality.
Research Question: What types of sex education programming are most effective at teaching young people how to make responsible choices about their bodies and sexuality?
Key words: Inclusive sex education, programming, abstinence, young people, youth, high schoolers, teens, responsible choices, safe sex, consent, sexual ethics
