Monday Aprill 8, 2024 a partial solar eclipse of about 85% will be visible in Shippensburg (visibility weather permitting).Eclipse path April 8 2024

  • Begins approximately 2:04 PM
  • Maximum coverage 3:30 PM
  • Ends approximately 4:32 PM

A LIMITED SUPPLY of eclipse viewing safety glasses will be available at the Lehman Library Circulation desk.  You can request a pair on a first come basis the day of the event!

During partial or annular solar eclipses, it is NEVER safe to look directly at the eclipse without proper eye protection.  Regular sunglasses, no matter how dark, are NOT safe for viewing the sun.  Safe "eclipse glasses" must meet the ISO 12312-2 international standard.

The American Astronomical Society recommends providers of safe solar filters: https://eclipse.aas.org/resources/solar-filters including both glasses and smart phone and camera filters.
