Open Education Week 2024

March 4-8 is Open Education Week!  Do you use Open Education Resources in your classes?

What is Open Education Week?   OEGlobal describes this growing effort as:

“An annual celebration and opportunity for those working in Open Education to actively share their achievements and learn about what others are achieving worldwide.

Open Education Week was launched in 2012 by Open Education Global as a collaborative, community-built open forum. Every year OE Week raises awareness and highlights innovative open education successes worldwide. OE Week provides practitioners, educators, and students with an opportunity to build a greater understanding of open educational practices and be inspired by the wonderful work being developed by the community around the world.

Over 13 years, the open education community in 79 countries has hosted 2,064 events and shared 843 Open Education assets in 38 languages. The activity has included 85,535 engaged participants from 192 countries.”

Celebrate Open Education Week 2024 from March 4 -8 by attending a virtual seminar!  Here are a few suggestions:

• OER 101: Getting Started with Open Educational Resources. Are you interested in exploring OER for your course, but don’t know where to start? Join Jeff Gallant, Program Director, Affordable Learning Georgia, for an introduction. March 4, 12-1.
• 90-minute Webinar: The Intersection of Wikipedia and Open Education Resources. This hands-on, 90-minute workshop will be led by Laurie Bridges, an OSU librarian and co-founder of the Wikimedia Campaign #EveryBookItsReader. March 5, 11:30-1.
• 90-minute virtual watch party: Building Open Community: Lessons from the Commons by Rajiv Jhangiani. Rajiv Jhangiani delivered a powerful keynote address at this year’s Open Education Conference. We’ll watch the recorded session synchronously via Zoom with the option to use the chat feature for real-time discussion. March 7, 3-4:30
• 90-minute Keynote Webinar: A Showcase of the Strategic Digital Accessibility Training in Oregon. Rob Carr, WebAIM Strategic Accessibility Coordinator, and Veronica Vold, Open Education Instructional Designer, will join colleagues from Oregon’s public colleges and universities to showcase their campus accessibility initiatives. March 8, 10-11:30.
