October 9th is Fire Safety Day. Are you prepared for a potential fire emergency? Shippensburg University fire safety information can be found at https://www.ship.edu/life/campus-safety/police/fire_safety. Our residence halls are equipped with fire safety measures to promote fire safety, but it is important that we all contribute to fire safe practices on and off campus. The PA Office of the State Fire Commissioner lists common fire hazards to be aware of in your dorm room, apartment, or home and ways to minimize your risk of starting a fire. Detailed information can be found at https://www.osfc.pa.gov/safety/. Consider familiarizing yourself with these hazards involving everyday items like candles and appliances that we come into contact with regularly. Have you developed a fire emergency plan for you and the people you live with? Are your smoke detectors installed and operational? These are good questions to keep in mind, and they may mean the difference between safety and harm.
