How to Evaluate a Source

When evaluating sources, it is important to look at four distinct areas: accuracy, authority, objectivity, and timeliness.

Accuracy

Who wrote the webpage?  Is this person qualified to speak on this topic?

What is the purpose of this content?

Authority

Who published the document?

Are the author's credentials listed?

What organization oversees the content?

Are there citations for the source material?

Objectivity

What goals does this content meet?

What level of detail is given?

Are opinions presented backed up with evidence?

Is this page a mask for advertising?

Timeliness

When was the content produced?

When was the last update?

Do the links still work?
